The toenail fungus treatment options & its risk factors
The toenail fungus treatment has many options. In some rare cases there tendency of relapsing of the nail fungus infection, in such cases the preferred treatment requires removal of the entire nail or part of it depending upon the judgment of the treating doctor. In case the fungus infected nail is asymptomatic and there is no trouble, it can be left untreated as it is, till there is no associated problem.
The nail fungus is commonly called as Onychomycosis, which has been considered as most difficult infection caused by the fungus and its treatment also is quite difficult. It poses a cosmetic problem to the appearance of the toe nail.
The various risk factors enhancing incidence of toenail fungal infection are:
1. Old age, male persons are more affected in comparison to females.
2. There can be occurrence of trauma of the nail.
3. Presence of peripheral vascular disease, hyper-hydrosis, athlete’s foot.
4. Presence of immune deficiency.
5. Poorly maintained hygiene and prolonged excessive exposure to water.
